Your Confidentiality Assured
We recognise how important your business is to you and how
important confidentiality is to us all. That is why we adhere to our own policy
of client confidentiality.
Client confidentiality is
the principle that an institution or individual should not reveal information
about their clients to a third party without the consent of the client or a
clear legal reason. This concept is commonly provided for in law as prescribed
in England & Wales.
The access to a client's data as provided by the client in
question is in some cases the data that is by definition inaccessible to third
parties and should never revealed; this can include confidential information
gathered by any of our employees in the course of their duties.
Furthermore, any information gathered in the course of
carrying out any works stipulated by our client and within the confines of any
agreement made or being carried out, is within the meaning of the Data
Protection Act 1998.
The Data Protection Act
The Data Protection Act regulates how your personal
information is used and protects you from misuse of your personal details.
It provides a common-sense set of rules which prohibit
the misuse of your personal information without stopping it being used for
legitimate or beneficial purposes.
The details of the Data Protection Act are quite complex,
but at the heart of it are eight common-sense rules known as the Data
Protection Principles.
These require personal information to be:
- fairly and lawfully processed;
- processed for limited purposes;
- adequate, relevant and not excessive;
- accurate;
- not kept longer than necessary;
- processed in accordance with your rights;
- kept secure;
- not transferred abroad without adequate
protection.
Organisations using personal information ('data
controllers') must comply with these Principles.
The Act provides stronger protection for sensitive
information about your ethnic origins, political opinions, religious
beliefs, trade union membership, health, sexual life and any criminal
history.
Getting access to your information
The Act, with some exceptions, gives you the right to
find out what information is held about you by organisations. This is
known as the 'right of subject access'. On written request, you are
entitled to be supplied with a copy of all the information an organisations
holds about you.
The organisation may charge a fee for providing the
information, up to a maximum of £10 in most instances and up to £50 in the
case of manual (i.e. non-electronic) medical records. To see what

Client Disclosure and Confidentiality Policy
Icarus Fire Protection Ltd undertakes to maintain client data in
secure conditions and to process and disclose data only within the terms of the
Data Protection Act 1998. Confidential information concerning anything disclosed
by a client or its employees will be maintained in confidence and will not be
released to anyone without the client’s authorisation. The only exceptions to
this are where there is a legal obligation to do so or where exceptional issues
of personal safety arise.
However, where the need arises for contact with other
professionals, eg: Fire Service Employees or any other relevant persons, the
client will be encouraged to sign a
Confidentiality
Disclosure Form. If authorised by the client in
this way, Icarus Fire Protection Ltd will then be able to discuss issues relevant to
the client’s requirements in order to best serve the client's interests.
Information regarding a client’s circumstances can then also be shared between
Fire Professionals in situations where it is felt this would enable us to extend
support for the client.
Storage of written information
Any written information held by Icarus Fire Protection Ltd regarding
a client’s situation will be kept in confidential files in our office. In cases
where the client has signed a Confidentality Disclosure Form (see above) other
staff within Icarus Fire Protection Ltd may consult the client’s file on
